06-18-2015 | Drought Conditions Lower Sunshine Water Control District's Canal Water Levels

The months of November-May are known as the dry season in Florida due to the minimal amounts of rainfall. Historically, we average only about 2 inches of monthly rainfall during this time. Sunshine's canal levels do recede and are lower than normal during these months.

March 2015 | Canal Z Construction Project Completed

The dredging and widening of Canal Z from Coral Ridge Drive to Coral Springs Drive has been completed. The canal bank right-of-ways have been sodded and irrigation lines reconnected. With these improvements, the Canal now moves a larger volume of water which improves drainage for many upstream neighborhoods.

The dredging and widening of Canal Z from Coral Ridge Drive to Coral Springs Drive was initially projected to be completed by the first week of September, 2014. The amount and duration of rainfall and unforeseen delays has hampered progress to date.

04-07-2014 | Jim Maguire elected to Sunshine Water Control District's Board of Supervisors

CORAL SPRINGS, FL - April 7, 2014 - Mr. Jim Maguire, a past president of The Country Club of Coral Springs (The Club) and a long-time resident of the City, was elected to the Board of Supervisors of the Sunshine Water Control District (“District”) at a Landowners’ Meeting held on March 31, 2014. Mr. Maguire was formally sworn in and will serve a three-year term.

The dredging and widening of Canal Z from Coral Ridge Drive to Coral Springs Drive began in January 6, 2014. The improvements to the main drain Canal Z in the District’s West Basin are projected to be completed by end of June 2014.

02/01/2014 | Canal Z Right-of-Way Clearing and Dredging Project

Sunshine Water Control District began making improvements to Canal Z, a main drainage waterway for the District’s West Basin, in August, 2013. This canal, located south of Royal Palm Blvd, flows eastward from the Sawgrass Expressway to Coral Springs Drive, connecting to the District’s West Outfall Canal and Pump Station #2, where excess water is discharged into the C14 Canal. Every District canal in the Corporate Park, Westchester and Country Club subdivisions flows south into Canal Z, making it a critical component for flood control in these neighborhoods.

03/16/2013 | SWCD Employees Participate in Annual Waterway Cleanup

Sunshine Water Control District ("Sunshine") maintenance crews work every day cleaning the 22 miles of District canals and remove over 80 tons of debris, weeds and trash each year. This important trash removal helps clear materials that can clog and restrict our waterways. We also take pride in the appearance of Sunshine's canals that enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods and community.

Sunshine Water Control District Pump Station 1 & 2 Replacement Awarded Project of the Year

The Broward County Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers announced at ASCE’s Annual Awards Luncheon on October 12, 2012 that the Sunshine Water Control District (SWCD) Pump Station 1 and 2 Replacement has been awarded its Project of the Year. The award recognizes projects that have demonstrated design and/or construction excellence in the area of civil engineering. The new pump stations were designed by IBI Group in Pompano Beach, FL.
